This show will run until 30 September. No bulls or bullfighters will be harmed at this event. It is a celebration of culture, not animal cruelty.
"Milagros"
Based on the Ex-Voto style of painting, with European and Hispanic origins.
Ex-Voto, taken from Latin, (ex voto suscepto) meaning: "from the vow made".
Ex-Votos can be a variety of offerings, to saints, The Virgin Mary, or The Trinity.
Contreras Gallery features the most popular of the offerings, which are especially produced in Mexico.
They are the hand painted votives on metal plates, offered in gratitude, and devotion for the fulfillment of a personal vow.
Opening: Saturday, August 7, 6 to 10 pm.

Self taught
The white of a blank canvas motivates me the most, it calls to me
I like oil paint, I like canvas, I like to put the two together
In preparation, I meditate on an idea for as long as it takes, sometimes years
What ever idea captivates me gets painted-- this usually puts me in several genres
Mood and feeling of each painting dictate my choice of colors
My pallet is an organized chaos, music keeps me diligently painting
When done, I wonder how the hell I got through it and I sleep with grateful disbelief
