From 5:00 to 6:00 pm I'll be participating in 2nd Saturdays, Science In The City, in downtown Tucson.
Meet Heidi H. Harralson, MA, CDE, D-BFDE, a board certified forensic document examiner for Spectrum Forensic International, LLC., specializing in forensic analysis of painted signatures on artwork. She will demonstrate and discuss the study she is conducting, which involves the forensic analysis of the difference between an artist's painted signature and handwriting.
Artists Daniel Martin Diaz, E. Michael Contreras, Neda Contreras and Ruben Urrea Moreno will be participating in a live painting demonstration of their signatures for analysis.
Description of Study:
Forensic handwriting examination of signatures on artwork can be problematic as "painting" a signature is a very different writing process to signing with an inking pen. The purpose of this study is to examine the differences that occur between signatures signed with a conventional inking pen to signatures signed with a paint brush. Not only are there differences in the signature movement, connectivity, and size, but sometimes artists produce widely different graphic signatures on artwork in comparison to their legal signatures. This study will help forensic analysts and art authenticators to more clearly understand the process and limitations of analyzing art signatures.
